Now, my girlfriend likes walking into a comic shop about as much as she likes my cooking. Which is not very much.
While I’m hanging out and flicking through some new issues, she’s rooted to the spot, eyes constantly darting up and down the aisle, presumably in case a geek infects her with, well, his geekness.
Which is why I was so happy with my Christmas haul from her, because she overcame her fears, went into Forbidden Planet on her own and got me three Marvel Essentials, all crammed full with classic tales from the likes of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.
“I was in there for ages, I kept picking up ones and putting them back on the shelf because the corners were turned up and I knew you wouldn’t like that,” she said.
Now that is dedication to the cause. And things got even better, because she got me an amazing old-school canvas of the Dynamic Duo in action, taken from the classic 1949 Columbia serial Batman and Robin. Best Christmas present ever.

And it didn’t stop there either. My mum got me Superman buibble bath so that I can smell like the Man of Steel, plus a set of matching his and hers Superman and Supergirl mugs for me and the girlfriend.
Of course, I never told my mum that Superman never actually banged Supergirl because she’s his cousin, and that’s just plain sick, even on Krypton.

WHOA. THIS IS SO COOL. And your girlfriend is pretty cool, especially after reading that quote. I mean, my friend saw me trying to put in a comic into the plastic sleeve and I was having a bit of trouble and then she says that she would do it for me so I let her. She then folded the comic and I was like, “NOOOO!” so I said, “Let go of it,” and I held onto the comic, thinking she would let go, but instead, she pulls it towards her! Like what the heck is that?! Thank God the comic had no rips or creases in it and was still in top condition.
Plus those mugs are cool. I have to find them. I’ve seen a Batman one and that one looks great too.
I really want that Supergirl one now cos it’s pink.

Excellent man, three Essentials, one of the THOR, and a canvas that’s like 1/4 your size. Pretty sweet deal!

I still don’t believe you have a girlfriend…..you bought them yourself, didn’t you?
Only Joker-ing. You kids should come down for some food, drink and whatever dodgy superhero film happens to be on at the flicks…..
And hey, is that our Xmas card in that photo?

So you’re on the road to converting Laura to becoming a comic geek, although us fangirls have a much nicer name (Queen Fan Girls). Tell her it isn’t all that scary once you get used to it. You got some cool stuff there Bob.
Also thanks for the card, we got it yesterday. I did remember though that I didn’t send you those addresses you asked for, so sorry. *hangs head in shame*.

LOL! Looks like your gals are finally supporting your hobby. You should write an instruction manual on that – how you got them to accept it and not only that, but buy you stuff. Other geeks would pay good money to learn how you managed it.
