This is the view I have from my living room window, but some jumped-up, publicity-seeking types have managed to get themselves a few headlines after declaring that I live in the most dismal town centre in Scotland.
There certainly are parts of Coatbridge that are a wee bit drab, but it’s far from being the worst place in the country. Alone, the cracking Chinese down my street makes it worthwhile living here.
And othe last year, the local authority has shelled out £26 million each for two new high schools in the town. Summerlee Heritage Park is getting a £10 million makeover. The pedestrian precinct has had £4 million spent on it over the last few years, and the derelict baths which the judges condemned are being transformed into a new £15 million health centre.
Worst town centre in Scotland? No chance.
