It’s Splash Page Sunday!

Powerful stuff

I remember being really moved when I read Fantastic Four #267 back in the day. This is the last page in the book and it’s a real gut punch. John Byrne, for me, brought more humanity to the book than anyone else. There’s another moving issue where he takes a Secret Wars II tie-in and turns something that was foisted on him into something very powerful when he tells the story of the death of a young boy who idolises the Human Torch.

In this issue though, Sue has a miscarriage. The story sees Reed trying to track down Doctor Octopus, to ask him if he can use his knowledge of radiation to save the baby. Octavius agrees, eventually, to do the right thing, but it’s too late.

Here’s a larger version.

  1. MOCK! says:

I was not yet 14 when this came out….the last page TOTALLY took me by surprise. I think somewhere in the back of my head I knew it wasn’t going to work out, but when he convinced Doc Ock to help him out, I thought it was going to be okay. Probably my first realization that comics can do more than just show me a big fight….
