Carmine Infantino 1925 – 2013

Bad news tonight about Carmine Infantino passing away. One of the greats, and for me the guy behind the best Batman cover that never was and maybe the best that ever was too.

The image up the top is a pin-up from Detective Comics #352 but was reprinted as a cover on a Batman collection that I treasured as a kid.

  1. Jim Ladd says:

He was one of the greats. In the early ’70’s, when I sent some art samples in to DC, he replied with a kind, personal note to me, explaining that they weren’t hiring new artists at the time, and blunting the disappointment of rejection. I’ll always appreciate his kindness, as well as his incredibly beautiful work.

That’s a great tale Jim, thanks for sharing it.
