Welcome to my blog, Bob Mitchell in the 21st Century. This is the place where I get to talk about cool stuff like comics because it’s too embarrassing to talk about it in the real world.

I started reading comics around 1977 or 1978 when I was aged four or five, and there was a wonderful collission between comics and movies like Star Wars and Superman that I’m still reeling from today.

I live in Scotland and play second row with rugby side Waysiders/Drumpellier. Well, my back is giving me a bit of grief so I’m more into the social side of rugby at the moment, which involves one of the other great loves of my life, beer.

Anyways, hope you enjoy the blog. Bob Mitchell in the 21st Century is, of course, a wee riff on the old Buck Rogers in the 25th Century TV show that I used to watch when I was a kid.

I just figured that since I’m into stuff like that, and given that my name is Bob Mitchell and this is in fact the 21st Century, that’s what I would call the blog.

  4. I have to say thank you thank you thank you for scanning in these old Superhero newsprint tales…I remember them from when I was a kid growing up in Adelaide South Australia and have been hunting for them ever since…even to the extent of people telling me they didn’t exist. If I remember correctly the Flash ends up with a shaved head, Black Lightning joins the group, there is a bit with Batman and Robin trapped in a bubble…I may be wrong on the details but look forward to them each week.

    Thanks buddy!

I mean everytime there is an earthquake, a flood, an oil spill – there’s always a group of heartless people who rip off tax payers.

This is in response to reading that 4 of Oprah Winfreys “angels” got busted ripping off the system. Shame on them!

Thank Mr. Mitchell so much for creating this blog. It is such a nice break in the day to see what funny panel or splash page you’ll be showing next. I wait with bated breath for the latest installment of “It sucks being Sue Storm”. You have inspired me to share my love of comics with the world, and so I have started my own blog on wordpress as well. Again thank you and keep up the great work.

  15. Hey Bob, nice blog, and nice last name. 🙂 I’m an independent musician and a huge comic book fan, and I’ve written an original song that I’m working on getting noticed by the filmmakers of the 2011 Green Lantern Flick, and just to spread it around to people who might appreciate and enjoy it. With hard hitting guitar riffs, rock solid groove and exhilarating energy, “In Brightest Day” is the perfect GL anthem, exalting themes of courage, perseverance and will power in the midst of impossible challenges, perfect to appeal to fans and non comic fans alike. I’d love for you to check it out on MySpace ( or Facebook (, and we just launched an awesome YouTube video that we want to spread around ( Your support would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, and stay awesome!

I found your blog by accident as it was apparently related to one of my posts, but coincidentally, I love comics and love what you have done! I’m a design student and sometimes do some things to do with comics in my work. But last week I had a Batman themed 21st birthday party you might be interested in – take a look!
